Neurological Disorders

Research into Neurological disorders in the North East and North Cumbria covers a range of conditions that affect people in our region.

The Neurological Disorders specialty relates to conditions involving the brain, spinal cord and peripheral nervous system such as:

  •  headache
  •  epilepsy
  •  disorders of sleep
  •  head injuries
  •  multiple sclerosis
  •  brain tumours
  •  infections such as meningitis
  •  stroke
  •  muscle diseases such as mitochondrial myopathies and myositis
  •  peripheral nerve disorders such as Guillain-Barre syndrome
  •  inherited (genetic) diseases such as the ataxias

There are 2 Neurosciences Centres in the region at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle and James Cook Hospital, Middlesbrough.
