Genetic Determinants of Kawasaki Disease

Kawasaki disease is an illness affecting young children and may cause many symptoms including fever, rash, red eyes, enlarged glands in the neck, and redness of the tongue and lips.  In some children, the blood vessels supplying the heart (the coronary arteries) are also damaged.

We plan to investigate Kawasaki disease by looking at the variation in some of the genes involved in the immune system and also those involved in the functioning of the circulation and heart. To investigate this variation we will look at DNA from both parents (if possible) and the person who suffered from Kawasaki disease.
